The winning team at the classic

Sarsfields held their inaugural Golf Classic recently in Lurgan Golf Club and the organising committee was delighted with the support of the local community. Much is often made of the intense rivalry both on and off the field between local GAA Clubs. However it was evident at this Golf Classic that many local clubs were represented, showing the real spirit of the GAA.

The organising committee was out on the course from early morning ensuring that all the very generous sponsors were given the publicity they deserved. The weather held out with only the odd minor shower skirting across so a good day’s golf was on the cards.

In addition to experienced local golfers, quite a few Sarsfields people with you might say little or no golfing skills gamely took up the challenge in support of their club.

Chairman Declan McAlinden was delighted with the success of the clubs first attempt in holding a Golf Classic. He thanked everyone who had given their support, the organising committee, the sponsors including the main sponsor Eugene Skelton of Movement Industrial Design Limited, and most of all everyone who had taken part in the competition. Declan also had a special word of thanks to the staff of Lurgan Golf Club, in particular to the restaurant staff who had provided a great meal to all our competitors.

Later in the evening a presentation night was held in the Bay Hall and this was very well attended by the day’s golfers.
