Sarsfields 2-10 Silverbridge 3-05

Sarsfields ladies have booked their place in the Junior Championship Final after a convincing win over Silverbridge. Sarsfields got off to the perfect start when Colleen Murray fisted an incoming ball to the net. Silverbridge replied with a goal and for most of the first half there was little between the sides. With ten minutes of the first half remaining, the Bridge pushed ahead with a goal, but the Highmoss pulled back two quick points. Silverbridge had the majority of the possession but failed to make it count on the scoreboard. The South Armagh side sent three handy chances wide and Brenda Shanks pulled off a superb save to prevent what seemed like a certain goal. The Highmoss hit a late point to level the game, but Silverbridge scored an injury time point to get their noses in front.

In the second half it was all Sarsfields. The Hoops completely dominated the game restricting Silverbridge to two points in normal time. Niamh McGeown was in a class of her own at midfield and set up attack after attack. However with ten minutes remaining the Highmoss led by a slender two point margin. The lead wasn’t really enough given the amount of possession the Hoops had. The breakthrough came on twenty three minutes with a Dearbháil Campbell goal giving the Hoops some breathing space. The referee kept the game tense awarding Silverbridge an injury time penalty for a dubious foot block decision. The penalty was scored but it was too little too late, despite seven minutes injury time having been played. Sarsfields now play Tullysaran in the final next weekend.
