Nola raises the trophy
Sarsfields 2-12 Tullysaran 2-03
Sarsfields produced a superb performance to win their first junior title. in Abbey Park. Despite going behind to an early goal the Hoopettes were soon in front thanks to an Andrea McAlinden goal. Scores from Rachel McKeag, Niamh McGeown and Colleen Murray pushed Sarsfields into a six point half timre lead. Sarsfields were slow to settle in the second half and were lucky not to concede a second goal in the opening minutes. Tullysaran came again at Sarsfields and got their goal, however the girls held their nerve, even when Tullysaran had closed the gap to three points. Brenda Shanks made some super saves and captain Nola McAlinden led by example in defence. Sarsfields dug deep and picked off a few vital scores to edge ahead. Five minutes from time a Ciara Robinson shot from distance, dropped just under the bar to give Sarsfields an eight point lead. Sarsfields dominated the final period with Niamh McGeown deservedly being recognised as the best player on the field. The final whistle saw huge celebration for the large Highmoss support.
