Sarsfields 1-11 Carrickcruppen 0-14
Sarsfields were competing against Carrickcruppen in this championship quarter final for the second time in three weeks. Last time out Sarsfields won comfortably but no-one was expecting such an easy match today. The crowd's nerves were already fairly rattled with the under 16's earlier draw in their championship final, and this apprehension seemed to pass on to the players early on. The game started very slowly for Sarsfields in the early evening sun, but Carrickcruppen were not for waiting about, and had their first point on the board within sixty seconds of the whistle. A couple of wides from Sarsfields, followed by a well taken 45 for Carrickcruppen didn't help the nervous atmosphere within the Athletic Grounds.

Eamon McGeown marked up Sarsfields first score in the 6th minute with a point from about 20 yards out. But Sarsfields were still looking jittery and had their first test in the 9th minute when Cruppen launched a high ball into the square. This was however well taken by Darran McAvoy and cleared of any danger. Yet Sarsfields still couldn't chalk up any scores. At times it seemed the half forward line was non existent, and passes into the final third of the field were easily neutralized by the Carrickcruppen defence.
