Wolfe Tones 1-08  Sarsfields 3-11

The Sarsfields Under 16 team were keen to put the disappointment of their league defeat to local rivals Wolfe Tones behind them when they met again this week in the championship at Eire Óg.

With ten minutes gone the Highmoss were fighting an uphill battle when the Tones raced into a 1-02 to 0-02 lead. However goals from Micheál McKenna and Niall Kerr edged Sarsfields into a two point half time lead.

Sarsfields started the second half with a bang, with Micheál McKenna bagging his second goal of the game. The Hoops scored 1-04 without reply to open up a good lead which they were to hold. The sides exchanged points to the final whistle with some excellent point taking from Caolan Skelton.

With five minutes remaining, Wolfe Tones earned themselves a penalty but any notion of a nervous finish was ended when Highmoss keeper Ryan Creaney saved and cleared the ball to safety.

Sarsfields now progress to the championship semi-final. The management were very pleased with the all-round team performance both in attack and defence with some of the outstanding individual displays.

A big thank you must also go out the many supporters who turned out to cheer the team on and remained behind to applaud the lads off the pitch.
