Ógs Too Good for The Hoops

Sarsfields 2-07 Pearse Óg 1-16

Pearse Óg quickly made their mark in this game, hitting the net within seconds of the throw in. By the time Sarsfields had registered their first score, Pearse Óg had scored 1-03 and it could have been more. Yet again Sarsfields’ problems stemmed from their performance in the final third of the field. In the closing moments of the half a Johnny Reynolds goal provided a bit of optimism for the Highmoss. However the Ógs cancelled out the goal with three late points to lead by five at half time. The visitors extended the lead to seven early in the second half and really the match was gone. Sarsfield did have opportunities for goals and chances to keep the score closer. Aidan Haughian had a great chance but was denied. In the final ten minutes Sarsfields pulled back 1-03 the goal coming after Paul McGaughey set up Eamon McGeown. Thomas McAlinden forced a great save from the Óg’s keeper who pushed the shot over the bar. A goal at this stage would have closed the gap to three points. It could be argued though that Sarsfields never really challenged the inevitable outcome.
